Edited by: Kora Bequin on 21/06/2008 12:22:53 The recent capture of Luminaire by the Caldari does not concern me. I believe the planet should have peacefully been returned to them long ago. It wasn't necessary for the Federation's survival after all and could have avoided the mess we are in now. Unfortunately, not everyone in the Federation feels the same.
Much blood has been shed by both sides. We, Caldari and Gallente, have lost many fine warriors and they deserve to be honoured.
Where I do find issue with this situation is where it involved those within my own corporation. Strix sent evacuation fleets to the area to remove our citizens from Caldari Prime. Unfortunately, Heth's men chose to murder many of our people planetside. Such actions are the acts of a coward and Heth should be tried as a criminal of war.
For the most part, the Caldari have fought honourably but they should be concerned about the innocent blood that has been lost merely for a symbol. Those involved will pay for their barbarous acts in time. May they get no rest until that day.

Originally by: Stitcher And where do you draw the line of "who was involved" and who was not, Miss Bequin? Are we talking all the crewmen and soldiers who took part, the officers of their ships, or just a few ranking admirals and Tibus Heth himself?
The State committed millions of personnel to the operation to retake Caldari Prime, all of whom were just following orders, like a good soldier, and a good Caldari. Should they be punished? Were their acts barbarous?
Slaughtering civilians and non-combatants is barbarous in and of itself. Those who gave such orders and those who followed them are war criminals and should be tried as such. Your rhetoric of "simply following orders" is just a way for you to justify such criminal acts. A soldier is not an unthinking tool, they know the difference between right and wrong. At the same time, those aboard ship may not have known the big picture as they mostly would not have seen combat planet side where these atrocities occured . In that case, the captains and admirals should take responsibility, like all good leaders should.

I should also point out that your men were operating in a warzone. They knew the risks when they went in there, and still did their job. In the confusion of a planetary invasion, I don't really think it's fair to call their deaths "murders", any more than the death of any soldier is a murder.
The refugee fleets arrived well before the planet became a "warzone." Many were killed well before open hostilities began by Caldari already on the planet.

Yes, that is a regrettable part of our history. Rest assured, it has not been forgotten.
In the same token, it saddens me to see the Caldari sink to that level. Unfortunately, many more similar crimes will be committed by all of the empires before this war ends. That's what war does to us.

Originally by: Stitcher It saddens me as well. I had thought we were above repeating those mistakes.
In my former life working for FIO, I learned that history often does repeat itself. Such atrocities will always occur in wartime. However, it is this pattern that also causes me to believe that peace will come one way or another.
